Accounts Assistant – Full Time – Permanent
Begg Shoes are now recruiting for an Accounts Assistant in our Inverness headquarters in Beechwood Business Park.
The successful candidate will be part of a small and dynamic team, responsible for the accounting & finance of 11 retail stores and a rapidly expanding online business.
Roles & Responsibilities
The role provides a far greater variety of day to day tasks than a typical Accounts Assistant position and is well suited to a candidate that enjoys applying their accounting skills to non-accounts related tasks. Due the timing of deliveries of shoes, the role can be more purchase ledger oriented for c. 4 months of the year when new shoes arrive in all our shops (in Feb – March and mid July – mid Sept).
From an accounting perspective, the role also involves income processing and recognition, stock control reviews and reconciliation work (bank, VAT and web control accounts). Due to the variety of currencies and sources of income we have online, the web control reconciliation presents an excellent challenge for any accountant and requires an eye for detail.
Out with of accounting, there is a large amount of work to be done to assist the wider business. Examples of such tasks are:
- Working with our 3rd party sellers (such as Amazon and eBay) to ensure we comply with their KPI requirements
- Purchase order confirmation checking
- Assisting our stores with various queries and problems they may have
- Resolving website customer order queries
- Assist the marketing team with various tasks
- Assistance with merchandising and weekly stock rotation (please see merchandising analyst job description for more information – this can be a part/full time job in itself)
- Utilities contract negotiations
- Retail KPI preparation and analysis for Area Manager and the Directors
Key attributes / skills will include
- Attention to detail
- Well organised
- Highly accurate
- Desire to help expand a successful family business
Qualifications & Work Experience
Accounting qualifications are not essential for this position though purchase ledger / bookkeeping / accounting experience is essential, as well as an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and Outlook.
Rate of Pay
Remuneration is dependent on qualifications and experience but will be in the range of £18,000 – £23,000 / annum pro rata.
Training & Career Progression
Training and support is easy to find in a close knit working team, with all key aspects of the role covered on a one to one basis, to set candidates up for success. Any specific external training needs identified will be fully funded, in support of the key objectives and needs of the business as a whole.
Begg Shoes offers excellent career opportunities due to the continued growth in the integrated store and website retail strategy that the business is successfully following. Career progression would likely be to a Merchandising role (rather than Accounting) to ensure sales growth can be met by optimising and increasing stock levels and multiple sales channels.
For further details please refer to the Trainee Business Analyst job description. Ultimately this role could lead to a position as Business Analyst or Merchandiser.
