Become a SALES Advisor with Begg Shoes

We are looking for a new recruit who shares our passion for footwear and excellent customer service. Retail experience is preferred but not essential for our Sales Advisor role.

We work with a unique selection of products from industry-leading brands in a truly omni-channel modern retail business, embracing the very best of In Store and Online shopping. This role encompasses so much more than a regular High Street Sales Advisor and it is for this reason we refer to this role Footwear Stylists within the team.

A successful candidate will benefit from extensive training both internally and externally. Our store managers and team colleagues offer excellent on-the-job support and training and will continue to develop knowledge in increasingly advanced areas over time. Our Managers, along with the Begg family directors run specialist group sessions as well as regular in-store mentoring to help develop the knowledge and key skills for the job.  Our loyal (and growing) customer base in-store and online recognise our leading expertise in footwear – this helps make Begg Shoes a great place to shop but also a great place to work.

The major day-to-day duties of this varied and stimulating role are:

1. Customer facing:

  • Develop a broad base of knowledge on our product offering
  • Approaching customers, creating a welcoming environment offering expert advice
  • Understand and introduce an imaginative range of alternatives
  • Recommend appropriate care and maintenance tips and products
  • Maintain a high standard of displays and customer environment in the store

2. Handling new stock arrivals direct from suppliers and also transfers between stores.  This will include pair checking, scanning of stock into our EPOS system and adding to our stockroom. This part of the role demands an individual with an attention to detail, for two main reasons: To check our deliveries are in excellent condition and correct and also to learn as much as possible about our new arriving products and relay the best possible information to our customers e.g. how does it fit, what are the key features, what kinds of materials are used, value for money or well-known brand etc.

3. Merchandising – assisting with window and interior display changes/preparation.  We take great pride in our displays and have won several industry awards for them as we target seasonal and local events with different themes.  A creative eye is a fantastic skill to have in this role though not essential.

4. Website – as the business continues to expand so does the importance of the website. Our Sales Advisors will commonly assist with our web order fulfilment to our customers all over the world, depending on which store. This requires attention to detail and it helps to be confident with everyday computing skills, such as writing brief emails and understanding basic spreadsheet data to help check and complete tasks. Any business-specific training needs can be learned on the job alongside other team members and we have a lot of success introducing and training new colleagues to our business.

Core Retail Skills – The basics of retail are essential and some examples of these include qualities such as dependability and punctuality, flexibility to help the team cover shifts if needed, (if required) keyholder duties and basic end of day count up routines, maintaining a clean and tidy store and staff areas, working safely and efficiently to complete all tasks and maintaining a secure shop floor.

Other key duties – we ask that our team carry out any other reasonable duties, not listed here, to the best of their abilities as required by management.
