shoe fitting at Begg ShoesShoe Fitting by Professionals

Shoe fiiting is of the utmost importance to the Begg family because they believe that foot health can be drastically improved by wearing footwear that fits properly. With that in mind, Begg Shoes has set out to provide the highest calibre of shoe fitting education available in the UK to several of their team members.  They have gone through / are going through The Society of Shoe Fitters Footwear and Fitting Course which will on completion allows our staff to describe themselves as a Qualified Shoe Fitter.  We now have 5 members who have completed the course with 5 more due to finish soon. The course has empowered our staff to become educated in foot health & foot problems and to advise our customers professionally as they are genuine Shoe Fitting Professionals.  The aim is that it will allow us to help advise our customers properly and hopefully prevent unnecessary foot ailments so that Podiatrists time is not wasted on avoidable foot health issues.

What the qualification gives us:

Shoe Fitting the right size first

By completing this 5 – 10 month course some of managers & sales staff have increased their basic knowledge of the shoe industry to include a full understanding of what it means to be a qualified shoe fitter. This includes understanding various parts of the shoe, their technical names, how the shoes are made, different construction methods, different materials, all about shoe sizes, how the shoe trade works, lower limb anatomy, foot development, basic functions of the foot and how to recognize problem feet. This qualification will benefit all our customers and by passing on some of their new knowledge to others in their team we feel at Begg Shoes we can help make the public more aware of the importance of professional shoe fitting.

Brenda Scott has been in the shoe industry for 33 years and received her Society of Shoe Fitters qualification in 2016. She loved the feeling of learning something new in every one of the 5 modules as she found it very informative and enjoyable.

A quick Q&A with Brenda:

Q. When did you receive your SSF certificate:

A. May 2016.

Q. How long have you been in the shoe industry:

A. I have been in the shoe industry for 33 years !! ? since I was 19years old.

Q. What did you enjoy most about this training:

A. Difficult to say what the most enjoyable part of the course was as I absolutely loved all of it. It was such a tremendous experience learning all about the bones and workings of the feet and legs and how utterly important it is to look after such delicate little feet from an early , early age.

Seeing how a shoe starts off as a hide and all the stages and workings that go into giving you a finished product. All the same work goes into making a tiny shoe as goes into making large shoes, hence why children’s shoes can be as expensive. Learning about all the different health indicators which can affect the way shoes can fit a person’s foot also. Great experience and very proud of my achievement.
