ECCO Shoes

History

A Danish footwear company established in 1963, ECCO is continuously at the forefront of footwear technology and design.  Founded by Karl Toosbuy, he fulfilled his dream by creating a shoe company driven by philosophy of form follows function.  Starting out as a small shoe factory in Denmark, ECCO then opened their first retail store in 1982 and have progressed tremendously over the past 50 years.  They have deservedly become a global shoe enterprise selling over 20 million pairs of shoes per year and employing over 19,000 members of staff worldwide.  To this day, the company is still owned by the Toosbuy family.

ECCO are unique in the fact that they are currently the only major shoe company in the global shoe industry to own their own production.  From their creative designers continually developing the collections, to the leathers being produced from their own tanneries, they are then manufactured in their own factories and thereafter sold in ECCO stores and by leading retailers worldwide.

ECCO shoes are some of the most comfortable shoes made, with their key ethos being that shoes should not be broken in; they should fit like a glove as soon as you put them on.

Construction

With having control over the entire manufacturing process, ECCO can guarantee that the finest quality of leathers and craftsmanship goes into the making of their footwear.  Both Scandinavian heritage and traditional techniques are a massive influence to their design philosophy with the function and fit of the shoe being the most significant aspect.

Comfort, of course, is another key element in the design process.  ECCO apply a unique fit to the making of their footwear which they refer to as Freedom Fit.  This allows their shoes to fit a wide range of feet.  They are designed with a narrower fit from heel to instep with the toe area being roomier to allow the toes to move naturally and freely whilst walking.

Throughout the range, the core competence of the ECCO sole technology is the use of (DIP) Direct Injection Production. DIP creates the strongest possible bond without using stitching or glue and in turn provides incomparable longevity and durability.  Light Polyurethane (PU) and Thermopolyurethane (TPU) are used through the outer and midsoles to allow the shoes to benefit from the cushioning and shock absorbing qualities of these materials.

ECCO’s innovative technologies help to make their shoes extremely comfortable, for example with their Biom range replicating the foot’s natural motion during walking. ECCO boots and shoes are comfortable, light and durable.
