Must have Shoes
Our guide to the Top 10 Essential Footwear Styles
I’m about to become very unpopular here but, I don’t really like shopping. There, I said it. Ok, not all shopping, its actually just clothes I hate shopping for – trying to find something I like, the hot, sweaty changing room and the mirrors that lie. I just don’t find any enjoyment in punishing myself like that. Shoe shopping on the other hand is a different matter. Slipping your feet into beautiful new shoes that are straight out of the box makes everything better (and the fact I don’t feel bad if I have to try on different shoe sizes!). Ah, it’s bliss!
Anyway, I’m going off topic. There is something about shoes that we women cannot resist – no matter how many we have in our cupboard; they are never quite the right style we want? So, below is a list of our Top 10 must have shoes – footwear styles which will see you through every occasion, without having to have extra storage built…
TOP 10 SHOES FOR YOUR WARDROBE
1 – The Classic Black Court Shoe.
It has been around for a long time and it will be your most loyal shoe in the collection – taking you from work to occasions to smart weekend wear. If you haven’t got this, try Gabor ‘Splendid’ in black patent– stylish, modern and comfortable (and will go with everything!).
2 – Ballerina Pumps.
After wearing your heels, you might need some flats! Ballerina pumps are great for slipping on for almost any use – work, play, occasions, you name it. The choice of colour is entirely up to you – black is safe and reliable but why not be bold and go for a colour which will compliment your clothing? I’m torn between bright red or fuschia.
3 – Ankle Boots.
Flat, heeled, black, brown, red, biker or riding – whatever your style, ankles boots come in handy for almost any time of the year. For a staple item, you can’t beat either black or brown in a flat riding boot style.
A must-have for Autumn/Winter season thanks to their versatility – a flat, black riding boot style will compliment dresses for smarter occasions and work right through to pairing them with skinny jeans for a dressed down look. Tamaris or Gabor are the firm favourites with us in catering for long boots (psst! They also do different calf width fittings on selected styles!)
5 – Winter Boots.
Ideally, a pair with a GORE-TEX lining to keep your feet warm and dry, but you don’t have to sacrifice style just to get the practicality of a waterproof lining as Legero or Superfit do some fantastic stylish boots which are lined with GORE-TEX.
6 – Sandals.
Yes, I know, we don’t always get much opportunity to wear our summer sandals but we are always hopeful that summer is just around the corner… If you don’t think you will get much of a chance to wear sandals then I would suggest getting a versatile style in a neutral colour so that you can wear them with any outfit.
Not the most exciting shopping experience, but a necessary one, and if you are a shoe-aholic like us then you don’t mind shopping for any type of footwear! Most people will spend a minimum of 30 hours on their feet for work, so make sure you pick a pair that are comfortable and give you the support you need. ECCO, IMAC or Clarks are just 3 brands that are great choices for work wear.
8 – Walking shoes.
You definitely need a pair of comfortable, supportive walking shoes in your stash of shoes. Shoes that will take you for miles, and will still be comfy. For weekends when you want to explore! These ECCO ladies walking shoes are also lined with GORE-TEX so will keep your feet dry as well as comfortable for all day walking.
9 – Sneakers.
You really can’t go wrong with a pair of Sneakers – Pair them with your jeans for casual, day to day use or they also look fab with casual dresses for a more laid back look. Fashionable and comfy, no it’s not a myth, you really can have it!
Save the best for last! Go all out with your choice of party shoes, everyone should have some shiny, sparkly shoes for those occasions when you can get dressed to the nines! Go on, be brave and go for the one your inner child wants you to get! So that’s it, the end of our Top 10, but please don’t feel you have to stick with just 10 pairs, be the next Imelda Marcus if you feel like it.
